The start of every average Audio person to a Audiophile.

It all begin at a time where we felt that our factory provided speakers are no longer able to serve our ears well or at times you feel that your friendly bob's car sounds much better than your fully upgrade audio system.

Its natural that one will either visit an audio shop and ask for advise some may have quotes in thousands and some would have higher or lower price point.

the questions is should you proceed or should you not proceed?

The answer is go with which ever shop that is able to provide you a car so that you will know their capabilities.

When it come to audio, firstly we have the hardware, installation skills and the tuning.

Hardware refers to

1) Speakers

2) Amplifiers / Digital Sound Processor

3) Sound Proofing Mats / Sprays

4) Wires / Cables

5) Fuse

Since we are done explaining the hardware this section will explain the duties of each hardware part

Hardware

1) Speakers

-> As we all know there are the forefront of sound, speakers move in and out depending on the electricity applied to the positive and negative connectors.

2) Amplifiers / Digital Sound Processor

-> Amplifiers enlarge the signals from the original source but doesn't make the sound louder.

-> Digital Sound Processor process the sound from the car player then allows you to have varies control over them such as slowing it down, lowering the volume (db).

3) Sound Proofing Mats / Sprays

-> Sound Proofing Mats that stick on the Doors or woven like mats that absorb noise

4) Wires / Cables /Fuse

-> Just like our blood vessels, Cable and Wires carry the audio signals to the digital sound processor or the amplifiers

-> Fuse are the upmost important item on the list as it will prevents catastrophic damage to your car.

so now i know what these items do how do i know which ones i need?

When it comes to Car Audio, first we need to know if the car us having a passive setup or a active setup.

ActivePassive

As shown above example, Active vs Passive.

Active Setup offers the following control

1) Time alignment

2) EQ adjustment

3) Loudness control

4) Crossover frequency selection

A Passive Setup offers the following control

1) Loudness control of +2 db (This is subjected to different brands and model of crossovers, not all crossovers will have this feature)

Now we know the type of setup which was design by the vehicle manufacturer the next step would be how we want to mount the new speakers.

a few considerations.

1) the Sound stage depth, height

2) the limitations of the vehicle doors if any, some cars rely on sockets connectors  from the door of the car to the body, this is one limitation as the installer either need to reroute the wiring by drilling or by other means.

assuming that no drilling was done. we would only be able to use the door speakers as single speaker driver instead of its original setup up to 2 or 3 speakers on each door. this only happens if you are having passive speaker setup on the doors

3) the mounting location of the hardware needs to be cool and not obstructing your daily life while using the vehicle.

With all this consider in place we can then start to think about the selection of Hardware.

In terms of Audio, music is divided in to 2 pillars.

1) Sound Quality

-> Means high Quality Sound that can project a deep and clear voice when playing any music.

2) Sound Pressure Levels

-> in general means the loudness of the sound.

Most of the products listed on every manufacture will state the use case of those speakers , amp. stick to that and you will not go wrong.

there are still a lot uncovered yet on this blog.

we hope that this post helpsDo stay tune,

Until Next time.
